You regularly take your car in for a service, but do you ever take your body for a service? In today’s post, we’ll consider this question in relation to the healthcare modality of therapeutic reflexology.
We all know that your car needs to be serviced regularly in order for it to perform at its best. Without a service, your vehicle will have dirty filters, dirty oil and ends up consuming more fuel while not performing as it once did. A service is needed to keep your vehicle running at its best, but is your body not worth much more than your car?
The body you have is the only body you will ever have. It is your responsibility to ensure that your body is functioning optimally. Your body may need a regular service too.
“My body needs a service! I’m not a vehicle!” you may say. Very true; you are not a vehicle. A vehicle can be replaced if it is not functioning properly, or breaks or is getting too old to perform optimally. Your body cannot be replaced; making your body much more important and valuable. It is the only body you will ever have and if it gets older or some part breaks or it is not functioning properly, it cannot be replaced. At best, practitioners may try to repair a broken body, but it can never be replaced.
Your body is so valuable as it carries you wherever you want to go and does that for your entire life. It should be our own responsibility to take care of our bodies.
Taking care of your body may mean that you live a healthy lifestyle; that you follow a good diet, that you get enough sleep, that you exercise effectively, that you breathe good quality air correctly and that your body eliminates unnecessary chemicals and toxins effectively. If you do not follow such good lifestyle factors, it may result in your body experiencing blockages and need some therapy or in more everyday language, it may mean that your body’s filters get a bit clogged up and your body needs a service!
I know, comparing your body with your car may not be the most flattering comparison, but it does give you a good idea as your body moves you around, just like your car moves you around. Taking care of both may be necessary if you want to continue being transported from point A to point B effectively.
The reality is that many of us do not live healthy lifestyles, resulting in our bodies not functioning optimally. It happens due to making the wrong lifestyle choices; eating incorrectly, working too much and sleeping too little, stressing too much about work and finances and circumstances in life. It may be the choice to rather watch another series on TV instead of going for a walk around the block or in the park.
Don’t blame yourself too much; sometimes our bodies are not functioning optimally, not because of our own choices, but simply due to the world we are living in at the moment. Sometimes we are eating healthy, but the quality of food does not provide the body with what is needed or sometimes even putting some harmful chemicals in our bodies, due to modern agricultural methods. Sometimes we are exercising regularly, but in the process, we are intoxicating ourselves, because we might be living in cities where there is polluted air so even though you are exercising to keep your body healthy, the environment might not be ideal for what you are trying to achieve. So we can continue.
Yes, sometimes our lifestyles may cause our bodies not to function optimally, but at other times it is simply the world we live of which we don’t have any control as the environment may decide for you what type of food you are consuming, what type of air you are breathing and how much stress and lack of sleep you have to live with.
That being said, we should take care of our bodies in the best possible ways we can and within the environments we live in. However, sometimes your body just needs that little more help that can be compared to your vehicle being taken for a service; sometimes your body needs a service too, but where do you take your body for a service?
Your vehicle usually goes to the dealership for a service, but your body may need to be taken to the correct professional for a service. There are many complementary and healthcare therapists available to be able to service your body and ultimately the decision of where to go, rests with each individual, but have you ever considered a therapeutic reflexologist for that regular service of your body?
Therapeutic Reflexology is the ideal healthcare modality to offer your body the therapy it needs to deal with blockages in the system while optimising bodily functions like circulation and elimination whilst reducing your stress levels that may be similar to your vehicle getting a good service.
Therapeutic Reflexology is non-invasive, it is very relaxing and it is an enjoyable therapy. As a result of therapeutic reflexology, you may experience better sleep patterns, less stress, better bowel movements, increased energy levels and even reduced pain levels.
Take note that when taking your vehicle for a service, you always go to a reputable mechanic, preferably at the car dealership you bought the vehicle from. Similarly, you should take your body to a reputable therapeutic reflexologist which means it is a properly qualified therapist that is registered and regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA), the only statutory body that gives Therapeutic Reflexologists the right to practice legally.
Your body deserves quality service and therefore an AHPCSA registered and registered therapeutic reflexologist should always be the professional of choice.
If you have not taken your body for a regular therapeutic reflexology treatment; here is some excellent news: It is never too late and you may begin with your very first therapeutic reflexology treatment whenever you are ready!
