It is a new year and we kicked off the year speeding from work to the school run to sporting events and studies. That is how new years usually begin; we have resolutions, but soon after we made them, we are back in the rat race trying to cope with the demands on our time and finances. In today’s post, we’ll consider balancing your time between vacation and the world of being back in your routine.
You do not have to run yourself down during this year; you have options to avoid you from working yourself into or close to burnout. As this is the beginning of the year, why not reconsider your ways and maybe make some changes to ensure you enjoy this year.
This may be news to many, but you are able to enjoy the year and then choose to have a vacation at the end of the year to continue the enjoyment; you do not have to work yourself almost to death and then take a vacation during which you try to recover yourself, but before you feel almost yourself again, the vacation is over and you are back in the rat race. This year you should take responsibility for your own life and health to ensure you enjoy the year and your life while making life enjoyable for your family as well.
It may sound so easy when reading this article, you may think because I do not know your hectic schedule. True, but I have my own hectic schedule so I know how it feels to have constant demands on your time and finances. However, I have made the decision to not allow my schedule to rule my life, but instead, I’m taking full responsibility for my schedule and my health. I challenge you to do the same this year.
You may want to begin this step by considering regular therapeutic reflexology sessions in order to control your stress levels. Stress is called the “silent killer” in our modern times and if we do not control it, then stress will control you and your health.
Therapeutic Reflexology is one of the best methods to use to keep your stress under control. I get regular therapeutic reflexology sessions myself because I know how important it is to keep my own stress levels under control in order to stay within an optimum state of wellness. When my stress levels are under control, I tend to be in a happier state of mind and I also have the ability to handle so much more and handle a hectic schedule so much more effectively. Yes, I practice what I preach so before I’ll tell any patient that they should get regular therapeutic reflexology sessions, just know that I do the same. I advise from a point of personal experience and not only from a point of education.
When you consider regular therapeutic reflexology sessions, please ensure that you go to a proper professional. There are many people professing that they are offering reflexology, but you deserve the best. Make sure the therapeutic reflexologist you visit is professionally registered and regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA). That is a statutory body just like the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is where your medical doctor registers with. Without registration with the AHPCSA, therapeutic reflexologists are practicing illegally. Once registered with the AHPCSA, then therapeutic reflexologists may obtain a practice number (from the same organisation your medical doctor obtain a practice number from) in order to make medical aid reimbursements possible.
Please note: Medical aid reimbursement is not guaranteed, but it depends on your medical scheme benefits and the medical aid plan/option you are on. You should determine from your medical scheme if you are covered for complementary healthcare like therapeutic reflexology. Your medical scheme may also have certain requirements before reimbursement. You should be aware of this as this is your responsibility to determine and not that of your therapeutic reflexologist. Even if your medical scheme does not cover you for therapeutic reflexology, please note that you may claim it back as a healthcare expense from your annual income tax submission.
Let us consider this from another perspective: Often you are willing to pay exuberant fees to go for a spa treatment at a day spa or a wellness spa and those treatments are not reimbursable from medical aid. Why not have the same mindset when going to your therapeutic reflexologist, but realise the healthcare benefits you may receive in the process? Therapeutic Reflexology is known as an effective healthcare modality for preventative healthcare.
This year you should take care of yourself. You deserve it. Even more important, you deserve the best possible treatment because you are valuable.
Consider regular therapeutic reflexology sessions this year to keep your stress under control while balancing your body and emotions so you do not have to feel the need for a vacation only once a year; take an hour out of your busy schedule for a regular short vacation with your therapeutic reflexologist.
You may be surprised how much better you deal with the demands that modern living places on you!
