Hikers (Athletes) can benefit from Therapeutic Reflexology. Read more in today’s post.
Hiking is a pastime or even sport whereby vigorous walking is done, usually in the countryside, along footpaths. There are so many options available for hiking in beautiful South Africa, especially in Cape Town where I live. I love hiking myself and regularly take my family on a hiking excursion; I especially like the hikes on and around Table Mountain, and in the Tsitsikamma.
When you go hiking, it is important to wear proper hiking shoes. The shoes should fit properly and not hurt you while you wear a pair of good socks; cotton socks are a good choice. Apart from the proper footwear, you should wear comfortable clothing and you should be prepared for weather conditions that can change at any time so ensure that you always have a warm sweater or jacket available, especially when hiking up mountains. A hat is a must, especially if you have thin or little hair like me; it helps to prevent sunburn.
It is important to stay hydrated during the hike so have sufficient water available, while keeping in mind that during hikes, there are not always toilets available so you should also not overdrink or overeat. Be prepared and take along sufficient fluids and something to eat.
To enjoy the hike, you need to take proper care of your feet.
Your feet are your most valuable commodity during hiking and many other sports, so do not neglect your feet. After a hike, it is always a good idea to soak your feet, use warm water with some Epson salt, and then moisturise your feet with a lotion to keep it healthy. Personally, I like lotion with a mint or coconut smell. This is just a personal choice, but I love coconut; I can eat it, drink it, or moisturise myself with it; it is just such a refreshing smell and taste.
When you hike, even when you have proper hiking shoes on, you put tremendous pressure on your feet and your foot soles may become sensitive, especially if you walk over rocky paths for extended periods of time.
If you are a hiker or an athlete, you should consider providing those appreciated feet with some well-deserved relaxation in the form of Therapeutic Reflexology. Your feet take you wherever you want to go whether it is along a pathway or up a mountainside, and then also all the way back. You should value your feet. You should take care of your feet. You should spoil your feet. You should pamper your feet. You should take your feet for Therapeutic Reflexology on a regular basis.
As hikers, we often spend some money on shoes and even outfits, but many of us never spend any money on the most valuable hiking commodity, your feet. The least you can do for your feet is to provide them with some well-deserved relaxation and Therapeutic Reflexology on an ongoing basis.
Therapeutic Reflexology is a formally recognised healthcare modality that works on the reflexes (nerve endings) on the feet, and sometimes other body parts, that offers a specific pressure point treatment, but also includes foot massage techniques. It is the ideal therapy to relax and pamper your feet. Therapeutic Reflexology attempts to restore balance (homeostasis) in the body through relaxation and the improvement of circulation and the elimination of toxins.
As a hiker, you know that your feet are sometimes painful. Pain is usually a warning sign of an imbalance and treating it with a non-invasive therapy like Therapeutic Reflexology on an ongoing basis, may provide you with valuable pain relief, but simultaneously revive your tired feet and provide your feet with the love they deserve. Your feet take you everywhere you want to go, so why not take your feet to the Therapeutic Reflexologist to show your appreciation for the amazing pair of feet you have.
Even when you are not hiking, you may be putting strain on your feet. Women just think about those high heels shoes that you have to wear to work. Your feet take you where you need to go whether you put strain on them with high heel shoes or whether you use them to hike on uneven terrain; spoil your feet on a regular basis.
Therapeutic Reflexology may be one of the best investments you will ever make as a hiker; you will spoil your feet to take you to even higher heights or longer trails.
