Passionate about Feet

At Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist, feet are my passion, and it is always an honour to be entrusted with your feet, and bodies.  Read more in today’s post.

My passion for reflexology emerged while I was still in high school. I read a book about reflexology and found it fascinating that the entire body is represented on the feet.  My interest was sparked, and I continued reading about reflexology, and the more I read, the more fascinating feet became.

In 2003, I had the opportunity to change my interest into practicality as I enrolled for a diploma in reflexology in the beauty industry with Aesthetic + Cosmetic.  I was privileged to get trained by Hans Gerspacher and will always remember how this German gentleman opened the world of reflexology for me, especially during the practical training when I had the opportunity to practically work on a variety of feet.  The subject matter fascinated me and being able to physically implement the techniques on the real feet of other human beings, opened a door of interest and a passion emerged.  The practice of reflexology was something I really liked to do and even when I added other modalities like massage, bodywork, and counselling to my repertoire, reflexology remained my first choice of modality.

I still remember when I moved to Port Elizabeth and set up a practice office at my house, how it felt to see my very first client.  She placed her feet in my hands, and it was such a privilege working with the feet of somebody that trusted me enough to consult with me.  That is an experience I’ll never forget, especially since that is the exact same feeling I get every single time a patient entrusts their feet into my hands.

During my master’s degree research for my MBA degree, I had the privilege of interviewing a Therapeutic Reflexologist that opened my mind to doing reflexology professionally.  When I had the opportunity to enroll for the diploma in therapeutic reflexology with the International Academy of Reflexology and Meridian Therapy (IARAMT) and get trained by lecturers like Inge Dougans, my passion for therapeutic reflexology and working on people’s feet just grew.

Today, I have the privilege of having a private practice where I work with many people’s feet and provide them with therapeutic reflexology, and the more I provide reflexology, the more passionate I become about the profession and working with feet.

The feet are a fascinating body part.  It is often not a body part that people pay much attention to, and sometimes it is a body part that causes numerous frowns and even looks of disgust, although at times it is a body part that grabs the fascination of people.  It is not strange for patients to ask why I work with feet, but I am actually working with people and their feet are just the therapeutic domain I use to provide them with one of the most relaxing therapies available.

The feet are an amazing body part.  It carries your weight all day, it is used in sports to accomplish certain strenuous activities.  You usually don’t think about your feet as you go about your daily endeavours, but as soon as you hurt a toe or a part of your foot, it takes over your focus as all your attention shifts to the painful foot because you are constantly aware of it.  Rather than getting to such a point, it is better to take care of your feet and ensure they remain healthy and pain-free.

As an avid hiker myself, I know how important it is to take care of your feet.  If you are climbing down a hiking trail on Table Mountain or Lion’s Head and your feet are painful, it decreases the enjoyment of the hike.  It is far better to go onto those hiking trails with pain-free feet that can carry your weight up and down the mountains.

Patients tell me that Therapeutic Reflexology is a non-invasive form of touch that makes them feel like they are touched as if they have never been touched before.  That is a good explanation of Therapeutic Reflexology because it is a touch therapy that provides maximum touch on your feet, and sometimes other body parts, that leaves you feeling relaxed and destressed.  At Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist, I always work with your feet, unless there is a specific reason not to, and then we may add treatment to other areas of the body as per your requirements.

Do not take my word for it, why not go to a Therapeutic Reflexologist that is passionate about your feet and experience it for yourself?
