Women’s Month: Making Yourself the Priority

August is women’s month and in today’s post, I would like you to consider Therapeutic Reflexology as self-care for yourself, your spouse, your daughter, your friend, or any woman in general.

We often think of Therapeutic Reflexology as a treatment, but we often forget to see it as self-care or even preventative healthcare.  Yes, it is a regulated healthcare profession in South Africa, but it does not only offer you potential health benefits, it also offers you valuable self-care possibilities.

Women have a natural inclination to take care of everyone; everyone in your family, everyone in your direct environment, everyone even at your place of work, but do you ever take care of yourself?  Think about that question for a while, especially when you have the thought of not having time to take care of yourself because there are so many others to take care of.  If that is you, then today’s post is especially for you.

Therapeutic Reflexology offers you the opportunity to take care of yourself for once, or weekly, or monthly.  How, you may ask?

Firstly, if you take care of everyone except yourself, the inevitable usually happens, namely, you get tired.  Very tired and it may lead to chronic fatigue and burnout.  That is not only an emotional reaction, but also a physical reaction of energy depletion and it may be the result of your body constantly remaining in the fight-or-flight mode.  Your body literally stresses itself into crashing.  Therapeutic Reflexology helps you to recover and rejuvenate your body by dealing with your nervous system and helping it to move you from fight-or-flight mode into rest-and-digest mode; it is like resetting your physical body.

Secondly, Therapeutic Reflexology helps to rebalance your emotions mentally.  It is believed that every emotion is stored physically somewhere in the body, thus by physically stimulating the body through the feet (or sometimes other parts of the body like the hands, ears or face), it calms the body with the resulting calmness spilling over into the emotions by rebalancing what is happening with you mentally.

Thirdly, self-care is offered through Therapeutic Reflexology where you get to take some time out of your day that you spend just on yourself.  There is no expectation on you, so if you want to talk during your session, that is fine, if you want to just close your eyes and relax without talking, that is fine too.  It is your session, so spend the time as you need to and allow the Therapeutic Reflexologist to physically treat you with an amazing healthcare modality.

“I don’t have time,” you may say, but that is not true.  Think about the bigger picture.  Think about how your family offers you up for one hour so you can get Therapeutic Reflexology and then they get you back all relaxed, all ready to give them quality time and attention, or think about the opposite.  The alternative is that you do not have time for yourself because you have to take care of everyone, but you give them the leftovers of your life.  There is your choice: Don’t take care of yourself and your responsibilities are covered with your low energy tank or take care of yourself and your responsibilities become a joy from the overflow energy in your tank.

Therapeutic Reflexology is not the only way to take care of yourself, but it is a great way for self-care to relax, spend some time on yourself while receiving a wonderful form of physical therapy that has the potential to fill your energy tank while restoring your physical stamina.

Consider Therapeutic Reflexology during women’s month.
