Complementary Nature of Therapeutic Reflexology

Therapeutic Reflexology is a complementary healthcare therapy and does not replace medical care.  Read more in today’s post.

Therapeutic Reflexology does not replace medical care or conventional healthcare but is the ideal healthcare modality to complement it.  It is from this premise that registration as a Therapeutic Reflexologist occurs with a statutory council, the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) alongside other therapeutic modalities like therapeutic aromatherapy and therapeutic massage therapy, and alongside diagnostic modalities like Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, and acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, naturopathy, osteopathy, phytotherapy, and Unani-Tibb.  AHPCSA is not voluntary, it is compulsory for practice, just like it is compulsory for medical doctors to register with their statutory council namely the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Statutory council registration is crucial to protect the public and to ensure that only properly qualified and experienced healthcare professionals are practicing healthcare professions.  As Therapeutic Reflexology is a complementary therapy, statutory council registration is also needed to ensure that the therapist is fully aware of limitations within the scope of practice boundaries that make an effective referral to diagnostic practitioners or conventional healthcare professionals possible.

Therapeutic Reflexologists registered with the AHPCSA may also apply for a practice number from the same organisation that issues practice numbers to medical doctors, making medical aid reimbursement possible.  The benefit of this is plain that Therapeutic Reflexology is truly a complementary healthcare modality standing as such next to other healthcare modalities without having to be inferior because in the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) arena there are numerous methods used that are not recognised and regulated by statutory healthcare councils.  Therapeutic Reflexology is a healthcare modality in its own right that is covered by numerous medical schemes alongside other and conventional healthcare modalities.

Therapeutic Reflexology does not offer any miracles or unexplainable cures but is a fully recognised and regulated healthcare modality.  Just like in the case of medical care, healthcare and physiotherapy, Therapeutic Reflexology makes no claims of healing as each person may react differently to treatment, so no miracle cures are promised, but it does promise the ultimate form of relaxation that is ideal to reduce stress and help the body to balance itself to maintain homeostasis amidst the environmental factors surrounding you.

Therapeutic Reflexology does not clash with any other healthcare treatments and does not interfere with the working of prescribed medication and is thus the ideal complementary therapy to be used in conjunction with any other treatment or medication being used.

If you have never tried to complement your usual treatments with Therapeutic Reflexology; you should consider including it in your treatment regimes.  If you feel unsure, please discuss it with your doctor or Therapeutic Reflexologist to ensure you get the best form of Therapeutic Reflexology available to you as the ultimate complementary healthcare modality in combination with your other healthcare treatments.

You do not have to be ill or suffer from an illness condition to make use of Therapeutic Reflexology because it is the ideal healthcare modality to use for preventative healthcare purposes and for health maintenance and overall wellbeing.

Make your appointment today and benefit from the complementary nature of Therapeutic Reflexology.
