Lockdown Thoughts

We have been in national lockdown due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) for a while now and in today’s post, I’m going to share some thoughts with you.

It is not normal for people to stay at home without the freedom to move around as they would like to, but in the world we live in presently, it is crucial to do just that according to the South African Government in an attempt to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This has been a difficult time for many as they are not used to being alone and none of us are used to being grounded for such an extensive period of time.  People deal with the situation in different ways; some keep busy, others chill while others work from home.  Some essential workers are working in the midst of a global pandemic.

So, let me share a few personal thoughts with you.

The other day I went to the shop for some supplies and driving to the shop in a city that feels like a ghost town from a Western movie immediately made me think of a series of books I have read years ago.  It felt so weird driving and I’m literally in the only vehicle on the streets at that time and that in an area where there are usually lots of traffic.  It made me think of the LEFT BEHIND SERIES of books that pretty much had a similar story to tell.

The Left Behind Series is written by Dr. Tim LaHaye, an American Pastor, and Jerry B. Jenkins, an American author, and it is about the world at the end of times.  They wrote this series of books that I started reading and just could not put down until I read the very last page.  It is a fictional story, but it is based on what might happen at the end of times according to their interpretation of the Christian Bible.  It is worth the read, regardless of your religious beliefs, especially during this lockdown period.  It may just keep you busy and your mind occupied.

Well, that is what I was thinking about as I was driving to the shop.  It felt like I was living like a character in one of the books in the Left Behind Series because in the books people were also in hiding due to war and due to illness and due to many other reasons, but let me not spoil the books for you; rather read it for yourself.

My thoughts immediately went to how the world has changed in just a few weeks and I wonder how the world will be in the future once the lockdown was over.  Will things return to normal or will the world be a totally different place?  That is still something to be seen, especially when month-end arrives and the economy takes a knock when people that have not been working are unable to pay their monthly bills.

As my thoughts were busy with what the world will be like once lockdown is over, I was also thinking about the future as a Therapeutic Reflexologist and wonder how patients will experience the end of lockdown.  I realised that the media has been bombarding the world with fear and instigating fear in people due to the Coronavirus and all the fear, anxiety and uncertainty may result in many people feeling overwhelmed and unsure about the future.

That is a normal feeling to have and you are not alone; there are many feeling exactly like you do at this moment.

Therapeutic Reflexology is such a great healthcare modality that can assist in reducing fear and I am wondering if patients would realise this and actually make use of Therapeutic Reflexology sessions to help them reduce fear and stress in their lives in order to feel normal again?  This is something that we shall have to wait and see.

As you can see, my mind has been wandering a bit the last while, but I would just like to thank all my patients for their loyal support in the past years and let you all know that I am here for you and when you are ready to exit lockdown, you are more than welcome to make an appointment for a Therapeutic Reflexology session to help you relax and deal with the fear and anxiety you have been living with for the past few weeks.

Looking forward to see you soon.
