Preventative Healthcare

Therapeutic Reflexology is known as a preventative healthcare modality within the complementary medicine industry, but what does it really mean?

Preventative healthcare believes that it is better to prevent illness rather than curing it, but when it does show up, it should be effectively dealt with.  Therapeutic reflexology is one of those healthcare modalities that successfully deals with both sides; it is ideal as a preventative healthcare modality, but it is also very successful as a therapeutic modality to treat diagnosed conditions.

It does not take a genius to realise that it is better to prevent illness rather than actually getting ill and then having to deal with it, but even though this is common logic, many people decide to rather live their lives to the point where they get ill and then deal with the illness.  Many people make a conscious decision not to make use of preventative healthcare and then end up to have to deal with conditions when it shows up; usually those are at the most inappropriate times when your schedule is so hectic that you do not have time to get ill, yet you always find the time to lie in bed and get better when the illness strikes.  The sad part is that this very same people may never have time for themselves to rather take an hour a week for themselves to help prevent the condition from attacking.

We all know people that never have time for themselves, that is now until they fall ill and do not have a choice, and maybe this is actually you.  You may be so busy, so overworked and so overburdened with responsibilities that you do not feel that you have any time to spend on yourself and your own health.  You may even feel that you do not deserve time off while the world around you is moving ahead at such a rapid pace.  Let us begin with this very thought today and just have a logical look into it.

Yes, your world may be hectic and very busy and you may actually not have any time for yourself, but what will happen if you fall over today with a condition you have no control over.  For the sake of this post, let’s say you have a heart attack today…. what will happen to the world around you?  What will happen with your work schedule?  What will happen with all the responsibilities you have?  If you have a serious condition like a heart attack, you will be incapacitated to perform your ball juggling duties for a while and you will be forced to lie on your back and recover and this can take a couple of weeks to months.  Do you really have weeks and months to spare and be out of your daily routine of being overburdened?

No?  Are you sure?  Just think about that for a while.  If you continue overloading yourself with responsibility and deadline dates without taking care of yourself, the extra stress may very well lead to you ending up with a serious condition and when it strikes, you don’t have a choice, you will be forced to take time off.  So here is the logical question:  Do you think you can afford a few weeks or a few months off or may it be more beneficial to you to rather take one hour per week off for yourself to prevent you from having to take weeks to month off?

That is literally all it takes.  A good therapeutic reflexology session takes about one hour and if you do it once a week, it is ideal for preventative healthcare purposes.  Some people would like to, but due to many factors are unable to do so once a month and then they go for the second best option that still has good health benefits, namely to book a therapeutic reflexology session once a month.  Discuss this with your therapeutic reflexologist to come up with the best possible preventative healthcare plan for YOUR life and YOUR personal circumstances.

When treating specific conditions, it is ideal to go for therapeutic reflexology sessions at least once a week, but preferably twice a week if you are struggling with specific illness conditions.  This frequency is not a necessity to maintain.  Once you have experienced the benefits of therapeutic reflexology and feel the reduced pain levels, better sleeping patterns, better eliminative patterns and improved healthcare results; then it becomes possible to reduce the sessions from therapeutic frequency to maintenance frequency which means you receive less sessions over a period of time, but it is there to maintain good health and overall wellbeing.  The purpose of this is to use therapeutic reflexology as preventative healthcare; in other words, it forces you to schedule regular time for yourself (whether it is one hour once a week or one hour every second week or one hour every month) in an attempt to prevent you from ending up with a serious condition that will force you to take weeks to months off.

As a therapeutic reflexologist in private practice, I do exactly that.  I schedule regular time off to go for therapeutic reflexology myself to control my stress levels while keeping my body holistically healthy.  Therapeutic Reflexology is the ideal modality to use for preventative health purposes and I do not only tell it to my patients; I actually do it myself!

Therapeutic reflexology is a great healthcare modality for treating diagnosed illness conditions, but also to use a preventative healthcare in an attempt to prevent stress to turn into more serious health conditions.
