Reflexology Anniversary

Today is the 1-3-4-18 reflexology anniversary of the reflexology practice of Christo Scheepers.  In today’s post, we’ll contemplate this unique numbered anniversary.

1-3-4-18

One year ago, on 1 March 2020, the private practice of Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist moved into our current office space at Suite 25B, The Bridge, 304 Durban Road, Tygervalley 7530.  What a privilege to have been practicing in this spacious office for the past year throughout the most difficult year in history where a national lockdown was announced within the same month last year, just after moving into the new premises.

Three years ago, on 1 March 2018, the private practice of Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist was officially established not only with formal statutory council registration but also with a valid practice number, just up the road from our current practice office in the suburb of Eversdal.  I had the privilege to practice in that smaller office space until 1 March 2020 when the need arose to move into a larger office space with wheelchair access to the practice and with sufficient parking.

Four years ago, on 1 March 2018, Christo Scheepers officially began with community service practical hours in the field of Therapeutic Reflexology as part of the final year of studies towards the Diploma in Therapeutic Reflexology with the International Academy of Reflexology and Meridian Therapy (IARAMT) under the guidance of Inge Dougans, just two months before leaving full-time employment permanently to pursue a career in Therapeutic Reflexology.

Eighteen years ago, on 1 March 2003, Christo Scheepers began the reflexology journey when he performed the very first official reflexology treatment as part of a Diploma in Reflexology he was studying towards in the beauty industry under the guidance of Hans Gerspacher, a German reflexologist.

The significance of the 1-3-4-18 reflexology anniversary can thus be summarised as the reflexology journey of Christo Scheepers on 1 March 2021 referring back to the one year anniversary in the current practice in Tygervalley, the three year anniversary of the establishment of the practice of Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist in Eversdal, the four year anniversary of the commencement of practical community service Therapeutic Reflexology, and the 18 year anniversary of the commencement of doing Reflexology.

What a journey it has been; 1 March 2021 signifies 18 years of practicing Reflexology and Christo Scheepers is humbled at the many feet (and bodies) he had the privilege of working with over the course of the past 18 years.  His motto of Touching Lives through Touching Feet has never been so true as when contemplating the past almost two decades in practice.

Experience

The past 18 years provided Christo Scheepers with a unique set of experience in the field of Reflexology.  He commenced the journey within the beauty industry, practiced reflexology within a counselling practice before purchasing a health-and-skincare clinic in Port Elizabeth where he practiced reflexology within the beauty industry.

He began a private practice in Port Elizabeth in 2005 and practiced reflexology as a modality alongside other modalities like counselling, ethnomedicine, and massage within the private practice, but also within a Netcare private hospital.

Moving to Cape Town in 2008, Christo Scheepers continued practicing reflexology and massage part-time within the beauty industry while involved in other endeavours until commencing formal Therapeutic Reflexology training in 2016 after a personal experience where his health benefitted tremendously from Therapeutic Reflexology treatment.  He made the shift from Reflexology in the beauty industry to formally regulated Therapeutic Reflexology within the healthcare industry with a valid practice number that makes medical aid reimbursement possible while being part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Qualifications

Christo Scheepers originally qualified with a Diploma in Reflexology (Cum Laude) from Aesthetic + Cosmetic, with various bodywork, massage, and natural healthcare qualifications from various institutions, and ultimately with the Diploma in Therapeutic Reflexology (Cum Laude) from IARAMT.

To qualify for formal registration with The Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) and for obtaining a formal practice number, the Diploma in Therapeutic Reflexology (Cum Laude) from IARAMT is the officially approved qualification.  All the other qualifications provided valuable insight into the health and wellness industry, making Christo Scheepers the well-rounded Therapeutic Reflexologist he is today with 18 years of practical Reflexology experience to ensure that patients get only the best Therapeutic Reflexology treatment from him.

Christo Scheepers continues upgrading his qualifications in the form of Continues Professional Development (CPD) which is an annual requirement for registration as a Therapeutic Reflexologist with the AHPCSA.  The CPD programmes do not only upgrade existing skills and keep knowledge and experience contemporary, but also adds new skills and techniques on a continuous basis.

Therapy of Choice

With his unique background and experience, Christo Scheepers practiced various modalities over the course of his career and Therapeutic Reflexology is his therapy of choice which he chose to specialise in.

The private practice of Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist focuses on Therapeutic Reflexology in all its forms (foot, hand, face, ear, the body; manual and Vacuflex electronic reflexology) as the therapy of choice.  The practice is set up in such a way that a separate entrance office is available where supportive therapies like emotional bodywork are offered to existing patients in the practice, but since such supportive therapies do not fall within the scope of practice for Therapeutic Reflexology, it is offered as add-on therapy in a separate session and in a separate office space to comply with all legislative requirements.

That being said, the main focus will always be Therapeutic Reflexology as that is the therapy of choice offered by Christo A. Scheepers.

Thank you

I would like to thank every patient that have entrusted me with their feet (and bodies) over the past 18 years.  It has been such a privilege working with every person.  Be sure that at the practice of Christo A. Scheepers, you are not just a number; you are a valued person that not only receives therapy from me but also impacts my life.

I still remember the very first person I had the privilege of giving a reflexology session to so many years ago.  In the past 18 years, I had the privilege of touching many pairs of feet (and hands of the trauma victims who had amputations done in hospital) and I’m thankful to each person that entrusted me enough to make use of the therapy I offer.

Thank you once again to all the patients entrusting me with their feet (and bodies); I am looking forward to continuing to offer you the best Therapeutic Reflexology.
