Safe Feet

Therapeutic Reflexology is a safe therapy; read more in today’s post.

Therapeutic Reflexology is a non-invasive therapy which means that there is no penetration of any object, like a needle, into the skin.  It is based on finger pressure and is therefore seen as a very relaxing therapy that provides stimulation to the reflexes or nerve endings on the feet, and sometimes other parts of the body like the hands, face, and ears.

Therapeutic Reflexology is furthermore a therapy where no undressing is required and the patient may remain fully clothed, obviously without their shoes and socks on as the feet are the therapeutic domain that will be used to provide the therapy.  Each Therapeutic Reflexologist works differently, but at my practice, I usually work only on the feet during the initial consultation because it is non-invasive, requires no undressing (other than the shoes and socks), and provides the opportunity for the patient to interact with me and to get to know me, to get comfortable with me as the therapist and to decide whether they trust me or not.

Usually, in further sessions, the therapy may be extended to other body parts (only if the patient’s condition or situation requires it), or further sessions may also focus on the feet only.  It is all about what the patient wants and needs, and what is required to provide the best possible therapy.  Any therapy is always done within the comfort level of the patient and no boundaries are ever overstepped.

I sometimes get asked whether a female patient should only consult with a female therapist.  The answer is easy, no!  A Therapeutic Reflexologist is a professional healthcare provider that adheres to strict rules and regulations from the Allied Health Professions Act and the statutory council regulating the profession, namely the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA).  Any patient can thus be assured that an AHPCSA registered Therapeutic Reflexologist will provide high-quality services within a safe space.  When a female patient comes to me and for any reason whatsoever feels uncomfortable, I’ll gladly refer her to a female colleague, but normally there is no need for such a referral based on the mere fact that the therapist is a male.

Having been practicing Reflexology for more than 19 years, sometimes alongside other modalities like massages in the beauty industry, I can assure you that I have worked with many girls and women that came for their very first treatment ever, and they decided to come to me as their therapist, even though I am a male.  Not one of them has ever felt uncomfortable, and they usually came back for further sessions, giving the clear impression that they felt safe and comfortable with a therapist of a different gender.

As a Therapeutic Reflexologist, I provide a safe space for patients; they come into my practice office and they can be assured of non-invasive therapy, no overstepping of boundaries, and a safe space in which to relax or discuss any condition or matter at hand with the assurance that everything will be kept private and confidential.  That makes for a pretty relaxing environment where patients can just be themselves without the fear of rejection or embarrassment, while they can experience the ultimate form of relaxation.

If you would like to experience a safe environment for your feet to be stimulated, why not make your appointment today?
