Sport Reflexology

Sportspeople benefit from Therapeutic Reflexology; read more in today’s post.

There are various sports that heavily rely on your feet, for example, athletics, ballet, baseball, basketball, boxing, cross country running, dancing, ice hockey, ice skating, hockey, netball, park runs, rugby, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.  These are just a few and there are more, but it gives you an idea of how important your feet are in some sports.  The feet are used to run, to stop suddenly, to climb, to cushion, to propel, to balance, to act as levers, as springs, and as brakes.  Your feet are crucial in being able to participate in sports like these.

Taking care of your feet is something every sportsperson is aware of but usually, it involves the use of physiotherapy to deal with injuries.  However, have you ever considered using Therapeutic Reflexology as a complementary healthcare therapy to merely keep your feet supple and feeling good?  It is something to consider even if you do not have any injuries.

Just think about placing all that pressure on your feet, whether from running or jumping or climbing, either from being on tar, clay, or rocks.  Your feet may be painful, sensitive, or just tired.

Therapeutic Reflexology provides stimulation on your reflexes (nerve endings) on your feet; it is a very relaxing and non-invasive procedure and people usually say that their feet feel good after a treatment.  It is not strange to hear that a patient’s feet feel light as if walking on air.  Many experiences pain relief from sensitive feet, even from hiking on many rocks.

The important matter is to ensure that you receive Therapeutic Reflexology from a properly qualified and registered therapist.  The statutory council regulating the profession of Therapeutic Reflexology in South Africa is called the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHCPSA) and registration with this statutory council is essential to practice.  It is illegal to practice without AHPCSA registration.  Registration with the AHPCSA is like medical doctors and physiotherapists having to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) to legally practice.  It is a criminal offense to practice without such registration.  The AHPCSA ensures that their Registered Therapeutic Reflexologists are properly qualified from a recognised training institution and have the proper practical experience.  Once a Therapeutic Reflexologist is registered with the AHPCSA, it is also possible to obtain a practice number, from the same place medical doctors and physiotherapists obtain theirs, to make medical aid reimbursements possible.

Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist is not only registered with the AHCPSA but also holds a valid practice number and many patients get reimbursed by their medical schemes for treatment, obviously depending on the patient’s medical scheme and specific medical aid option/plan they are on.

Sport is part of the South African culture, and you only realise that you are missing it once you are unable to participate.  It is a different matter if you choose not to participate in sport, but it is a totally different matter when you are unable to because your feet are preventing you from participating.  A regular visit with a good Therapeutic Reflexologist may be exactly what you need to continue enjoying your sport.

Christo Scheepers is a dedicated hiker himself, and together with his wife and two daughters, they are regularly hiking various hiking routes: they especially like the hikes on Table Mountain.  From personal experience, he knows that long hikes or hikes over rocky territory may result in his feet becoming tired, sensitive, painful, or sometimes even swollen.  One of the best ways to counteract these normal hiking signs is to receive a regular Therapeutic Reflexology session.  He does not only “preach” it, but he also makes use thereof.  That should tell you something when a Therapeutic Reflexologist believes in his profession so much that he regularly makes use of the benefits thereof himself.

If you are a dedicated sportsperson that uses your feet to participate in your sport, consider booking regular Therapeutic Reflexology treatment sessions for the ideal form of foot maintenance.
