Summer Feet

Summer officially began in South Africa on 1 December as the holiday season is upon us where our feet comes out of hiding as we tend to wear more flip-flops, sandals or go barefoot on the beach.  In today’s post, we’ll ponder upon our summer feet.

It is such a liberating feeling when arriving home at the end of a long day at work where you were on your feet all day and then you get to relax by taking off your shoes and freeing your feet to relax from carrying you all day.  That may be one of the reasons why the summer vacation is such a sought after time of the year, because it is as if your feet are constantly free and you can go barefoot as often as you wish and when you need to wear shoes, sandals or flip-flops are ideal and closed shoes are not necessary.

Summer brings about relaxation and the longing for a well-deserved vacation after a whole year of hard work, studies and stress.  It is a time when you can rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit, but with this wonderful time comes the results of summer feet that you should be aware of.

Walking in open shoes or barefoot may result in some dry skin on your feet and especially dry heels.  It is not a pleasant sight to have dry or cracked heels and when you are the one with dry or cracked heels, it does not feel so good either, so it is better to prevent it before it occurs.

This summer you should realise that you do not have to end up with dry and cracked heels, just take care of your feet from the beginning of summer.  Drink enough water to moisturise your body from the inside out and do not be shy to put some lotion on your feet in the evenings.  It will keep your heels soft and beautiful.

There are many good products on the market for you to use to keep your feet moisturised and even to soak your feet in to help them relax.  Soaking your feet is a good beginning to keep your feet relaxed this summer and to wash away the stress of the year.  Just imagine following that up with a good foot massage.

Yes, it is true, your spouse or partner is not always in the mood to give you a foot massage, but you can do that yourself too.  I’ll give that to you as well, it is not the best to give yourself a foot massage, but it may help to alleviate some pressure on your feet.  It is much better to get somebody else to give you a foot massage and if you are able to, going for a professional therapeutic reflexology session is the ultimate form of relaxation.  Your therapeutic reflexologist will always be in the mood to give you a good foot treatment session.

You may not have experienced a professional therapeutic reflexology session before, but maybe this summer is the ideal time to spoil yourself with the ultimate form of relaxation through your feet.  The benefit of therapeutic reflexology is that you do not only get a relaxing and foot pampering session, but it also has amazing health benefits helping your entire body to relax and balance itself from the inside out.  It is well worth the investment and this summer you may want to consider to have your feet and body treated by a professional therapeutic reflexologist.

It is always so fascinating to me when a patient makes a comment like: “You really enjoy doing therapeutic reflexology; I can tell!”  These are very true words and when thinking back at times when I went for therapeutic reflexology or a massage, it is immediately evident when somebody is doing something because they have to as opposed to somebody that does it because they love what they do.  I love doing therapeutic reflexology; to me, it never feels like I am working, because my work is also my passion and it is a wonderful privilege offering valuable therapy to people.

You may have heard about Gary Chapman’s five love languages before where he mentions five things that make people feel loved, namely: (1) Words of affirmation; (2) Gifts; (3) Acts of service; (4) Quality time; and (5) Physical touch.  My love language is definitely physical touch; I love to be touched and I love to touch.  My patients often make a comment like above where they say that they can feel that I love what I do; interesting that it comes through in my therapeutic reflexology sessions.

On that point, during summer you may feel self-conscious about your feet being sweaty and you may be hesitant to visit a professional for a foot treatment session.  The good news is that you do not have to feel hesitant at all.  Therapeutic Reflexologists are professional healthcare providers and we work with feet every day; all kinds of feet.  We have everything in our professional office spaces to sort out a bit of sweatiness or a bit of dirt as a result of you wearing open shoes; do not feel self-conscious about it.  Your Therapeutic Reflexologist will not be shocked; feet is our therapeutic domain and we’ll get your feet ready for a treatment session without ever making you feel self-conscious.  We are professionals, so do not feel hesitant at all about making that well-deserved appointment.

Summer is upon us; enjoy the time of relaxation and foot freedom and do not feel hesitant to bring your summer feet to a professional Therapeutic Reflexologist to help you relax by giving you the best foot treatment your feet deserve.
