Christo A. Scheepers has a diverse set of skills, various qualifications and extensive experience in complementary healthcare apart from Therapeutic Reflexologist but he has chosen to specialise in Therapeutic Reflexology and have done so successfully since establishing the practice in March 2018. There have been some requests for additional and supportive services at the practice, but just because Christo is qualified, able and experienced to offer additional services, it is not necessarily the right choice for the future of the practice. Today, you have the opportunity to provide your feedback and opinion on the matter.
Let’s begin with a brief history of Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist.
Christo completed a Diploma in Therapeutic Reflexology (Cum Laude) from the International Academy of Reflexology and Meridian Therapy (IARAMT) after which he formally registered with the statutory council regulating the profession, namely the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) and obtained a practice number from the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) making medical aid reimbursement possible. The private practice was established where he specialises in Therapeutic Reflexology focusing on foot reflexology, but also offering the full range of reflexology working on the hands, face, ears and body, offering both manual reflexology and Vacuflex Concepts electronic reflexology.
Apart from the qualification in Therapeutic Reflexology, Christo holds various massage certificates (body massage, holistic massage, Indian head massage, hot stone therapy massage and the prestigious Swedish massage qualification obtained after completing a total number of 200 hours of massages), various other healthcare qualifications ranging from natural healthcare to wellness to bodywork to counselling to giving injections to reflexology (as used in the beauty industry). He also holds the prestigious diploma in natural medicine and the diploma in herbal medicine that culminated in his registration as Doctor of Natural Medicine (DNM) with the World Organization of Natural Medicine Practitioners in 2007 (which he did not renew) when he practiced under registration of organisations like the South African Natural Practitioners Professional Board (SANPPB), the Ethnomedicine Practitioners Association of South Africa (EPASA), the Council for Counsellors of South Africa (CCSA), and the Natural Healers Association (NHA). In South Africa, these qualifications are not recognised for formal registration with a statutory council and registration for practice mainly occurred under the auspices of the Traditional Health Practitioners Act that is still in the process of establishing a statutory council.
As a result, Christo had a successful practice where he realised his passion for the therapeutic aspects of the practice rather than the diagnostic aspects and decided to use all the qualifications, skills and experience to rather specialise in therapy, specifically Therapeutic Reflexology. It is from this passion that he is practicing as a Therapeutic Reflexologist.
When patients indicate that they may want additional services included in the practice, it is not an easy decision as the use of any modalities other than what the Therapeutic Reflexology scope of practice makes provision for, results in many legal requirements having to be adhered to, including the use of separate offices with separate entrances, registration and regulation with different organisations and numerous other matters. The practice of Christo Scheepers is set up to offer the possibility of adding additional and supportive services while complying with all legal and ethical requirements, but just because something is possible, does not mean it should be done. It is at this point where your input will be valued.
Christo Scheepers is contemplating the road ahead and where to take the practice in 2022 and having an indication as to your preferences, requirements, hopes and desires, will help to make a final decision. Please feel free to complete the survey and provide some valuable feedback because offering you the best therapy in the best possible manner, is what we value.
We are excited about the future of Therapeutic Reflexology and specifically the future of the private practice of Christo Scheepers Therapeutic Reflexologist and will continue touching lives through touching feet as we have been doing since 2003. Therapeutic Reflexology will remain the main area of speciality whether supportive services are added to the practice or not.
