When people hear that I am a Therapeutic Reflexologist, they often want to know why people get Therapeutic Reflexology. In today’s post, we’ll consider the reasons why people often get Therapeutic Reflexology.
Therapeutic Reflexology is a recognised healthcare modality formally regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA), but other than with medical doctors or physiotherapists, people do not always know when to consider making use of therapeutic reflexology. Hopefully, today’s post will provide some more clarity.
It should be mentioned that Therapeutic Reflexology is a non-invasive therapy and therefore it is very relaxing while the patient does not have to get undressed in order to receive the treatment. The Therapeutic Reflexologist usually works on the patient’s feet and sometimes the hands, face, ears, or other body parts like the arms or legs. Therapeutic Reflexologists are known for working on people’s feet.
Therapeutic Reflexology offers a pressure-point treatment on the reflexes (or nerve endings) on the feet and since the nervous system is a network of nerves throughout the body, the patient experiences deep relaxation while giving the body the opportunity to heal itself, or at least balance itself, from the inside out. Therapeutic Reflexology is very effective in eliminating toxins from the body, increasing circulation and assisting the body to restore homeostasis, or balance. That being said, Therapeutic Reflexology is a healthcare modality and not some form of magic that can cure everything within one session; sometimes follow-up sessions are needed, but since each person reacts differently to treatment, it is difficult to say how many sessions may be needed. In my practice, I have seen good results in patients from the first session, sometimes a second or third session is needed and sometimes five to ten sessions are needed; each person is different.
Overall, Therapeutic Reflexology improves the quality of life of people and therefore it is an ideal treatment if you live a highly stressful life or if you are struggling with stress-related conditions. Therapeutic Reflexology is one of the most effective treatments to receive to reduce stress levels, but also to maintain health and wellbeing in the midst of stressful circumstances of life. Many illness conditions are caused by stress and those that are not specifically caused by stress, are often worsened by stress. Keeping stress levels under control is one of the best ways you can spoil yourself to experience overall wellness. People that are highly stressed, usually struggle with insomnia and digestive disorders like constipation or diarrhea; Therapeutic Reflexology may offer relief.
Therapeutic Reflexology is excellent to assist with pain relief and therefore it is not uncommon to consider Therapeutic Reflexology if you are struggling with tension headaches, arthritis, sports injuries, back pain, or pain in specific parts of the body.
Therapeutic Reflexology often helps with female related matters like menstrual disorders, premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis, hormonal imbalance, and infertility. Therapeutic Reflexology not only helps the body to restore homeostasis of hormones but often helps with pain relief during endometriosis or during menstruation and Therapeutic Reflexology is known as an effective treatment to assist with infertility; as a complementary therapy or in combination with other treatment the patient is receiving for infertility. During pregnancy, Therapeutic Reflexology may assist with the usual lower back pain or even morning sickness.
Therapeutic Reflexology is often a great complementary treatment for patients with cancer when receiving chemotherapy, and for patients with diabetes, because high dosages of insulin and side-effects of chemotherapy often cause patients to lose feeling in their fingers, feet and even lower legs and often therapeutic reflexology may assist with this in order to increase the quality of life.
Sometimes people feel emotionally drained due to trauma or a crisis they are dealing with and they do not always want to talk about what they are experiencing emotionally; in those instances, Therapeutic Reflexology is one of the best methods to consider to relax, not only physically, but also emotionally without having to talk about your emotional concerns. It is a treatment offering you the opportunity to love yourself, take some time for yourself, and spoil yourself while experiencing wonderful physical and emotional results.
Therapeutic Reflexology is not a magic trick, but a recognised healthcare modality offered by professional therapists formally regulated by a statutory health council and as such, it is sometimes necessary to obtain permission from your medical healthcare provider, but mostly, therapeutic reflexology is available to everyone as a great supportive therapy regardless of any other medical treatment you are receiving.
There are various reasons why people decide to get Therapeutic Reflexology treatment and since it is a non-invasive form of treatment, why not give it a try instead of deciding to live with all the health and life challenges you may be experiencing.
