Oncological Reflexology

Cancer patients may benefit from Therapeutic Reflexology; read more in today’s post.

I am sorry if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer; that is not an easy road to travel and the treatment for cancer is not a walk in the park either.  It is tough times, but you should persevere and get the best possible treatment that is the correct choice for you.  Whatever your choice, you will have the necessary support through the difficult time in your life from a Therapeutic Reflexologist.

Therapeutic Reflexology does not replace medical treatment or oncological treatment, but it offers a valuable supportive or complementary therapy, even while you are receiving chemotherapy or radiation.  Therapeutic Reflexology does not offer a cure for cancer, but it is a valuable therapy to help patients experience an increased quality of life in the midst of the cancer treatment that may have quite severe side effects.  The side effects are often part of the chemotherapy or radiation treatment and cancer patients are aware of side effects like nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and so forth.

Therapeutic Reflexology is a formally recognised and regulated healthcare therapy in South Africa formally controlled by a statutory council, namely the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA). That ensures professional therapy within a specific scope of practice and within ethical and specialised boundaries.  Practicing Therapeutic Reflexology without AHPCSA registrations, is illegal, just like it is illegal to practice as a medical doctor without professional registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).  When you make use of an AHPCSA registered Therapeutic Reflexologist, you are ensured of getting professional therapy from a properly qualified and experienced healthcare provider.

As an AHPCSA registered Therapeutic Reflexologist, I have worked with many cancer patients and it is always amazing to see the benefits being experienced by adding Therapeutic Reflexology to the treatment regime.  Cancer patients receiving chemotherapy or radiation to treat cancer, sometimes lose feeling in their toes, feet, hands, and fingers.  When these patients add Therapeutic Reflexology to their treatment regime, they often experience a return of feeling in their hands and feet, fingers, and toes.

Therapeutic Reflexology works by stimulating the nerve endings on the feet, hands, and sometimes other body parts like the face and ears.  Therapeutic Reflexology increases circulation in the body and attempts to restore balance in the body; the effect for cancer patients is often to experience returned feeling in their hands and fingers, feet and toes.  It sometimes even helps to reduce some of the other side effects experienced during treatment.

Therapeutic Reflexology is a safe and non-invasive healthcare therapy that may assist cancer patients to experience a better quality of life before, during, and after cancer treatment.  It may be worth a try as it does not interfere with the cancer treatment but merely complements the treatment.

If you are unsure of whether Therapeutic Reflexology may assist while you or a loved one is dealing with the devastation of a cancer diagnosis and the consequent challenges experienced during cancer treatment, why not make an appointment and see for yourself what you experience?

As a Therapeutic Reflexologist, I have worked with many cancer patients and it has always been such a privilege to be part of their lives and be part of the solution to see their quality of life improve in the midst of treatment.  I had the privilege of working with cancer patients until they have heard that they are in remission and there is no more trace of cancer in their bodies, but I have also worked with cancer patients that lost their fight with the disease as they lost their lives at the end of a long journey.  Through it all, it remains an honour to be entrusted with the feet (and bodies) of cancer patients and their families and to walk the journey with them, especially when I saw how the quality of their lives improved while they were fighting cancer.

Cancer is a condition that has affected the lives of many families; I have personally lost a friend I grew up with to cancer while she was only in her early thirties.  Cancer affects many people, but it does not have to prevent you from living a life of quality in the midst of the journey with cancer.

If you are interested to try Therapeutic Reflexology as part of your treatment regime, why not make an appointment today while determining for yourself if this amazing healthcare therapy can provide you with some benefit?
