Pregnant women may benefit from Therapeutic Reflexology; read more in my latest post.

It has always been a privilege working with women going through a pregnancy, sometimes from before conception when she is using Therapeutic Reflexology to reduce stress in order to overcome infertility and become pregnant, sometimes to the point of using Therapeutic Reflexology to reduce stress for childbirth.

Pregnancy is an interesting season in life as the body changes and the woman has to adjust with matters like morning sickness, discomfort, back pain, swelling, and water retention (edema), and just becoming responsible for another life growing inside her.  It is an exciting time but can also be a time of uncertainty and adjustment.

Therapeutic Reflexology can offer valuable support for pregnancy.  Therapeutic Reflexology is known for its effectiveness as a complementary therapy for matters like infertility, pregnancy support, and even childbirth encouragement.  Many expectant mothers will attest to the fact that Therapeutic Reflexology increases the quality of life and often helps with pain relief and the reduction of stress and symptoms like morning sickness, lower back pain, insomnia, and even edema.

It should be noted that Therapeutic Reflexology does not treat a specific condition but instead assists the entire body to stimulate its own innate healing abilities by improving circulation, improving elimination, and attempting to restore overall balance (homeostasis).

It is important to note that each person reacts differently to Therapeutic Reflexology.  Just thinking back on some of the patients I had the privilege to work with over the years, some experienced a reduction in morning sickness, some experienced a total elimination of morning sickness, while yet others experienced no change in morning sickness symptoms.  You will never know until you give it a try.

What is extremely important, especially when you are pregnant, is that you see a properly qualified and Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) registered Therapeutic Reflexologist.  In order to legally practice Therapeutic Reflexology in South Africa, AHPCSA registration is required, and that only occurs when the basic minimum educational and practical experience have been completed at a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)-accredited and AHPCSA approved training institution.  Do not put your baby’s life in danger unnecessarily by going to an unregistered person.  You would not go to a medical doctor that is not properly qualified and registered, so do the same when it comes to your Therapeutic Reflexologist.

Have you ever considered Therapeutic Reflexology during your pregnancy?  If not, why not make an appointment and give it a try?  Therapeutic Reflexology does not replace medical care but may complement it.
