Twinkly Toes

Therapeutic Reflexologists work on your toes; read more in today’s post.

Yes, Therapeutic Reflexologists work on your toes, but also on the rest of your feet, the balls of the feet, the arches, and the heels.  Today, we are going to focus a bit on your toes and maybe you will be illuminated with some understanding of how fascinating your toes are from a Therapeutic Reflexology perspective.

When referring to your toes, the Therapeutic Reflexologist will usually begin with the big toe located on each foot, so we call this the medial aspect of the foot.  Looking at your toes from the medial aspect towards the lateral aspect, or the outer part of the foot, will be classified as follows:  The big toe, the second toe, the third toe, the fourth toe, and the fifth toe (or small toe).  Most people have five toes on each foot, although there may be differences.  There are usually spaces between the toes, although there are differences too and some people may have larger webs between the toes than others.  Some people have short and small toes, while others have long toes, yet others have extremely long toes that appear to be double-jointed.  People have different toes, making the world of the Therapeutic Reflexologist very fascinating because just as we work with different people, we also work with different feet or in this instance, with different toes.

The Therapeutic Reflexologist will usually observe the toes and then get an overall picture of the size and condition of the toes, the condition of the toenails, are there any discoloration, are there any signs of fungus or unhealthy toenails or parts of the toes, are there any broken skin on the toes or especially between the toes.  These are all signs giving the Therapeutic Reflexologist a glimpse into your health and wellness.  When working with diabetic patients, it is especially important to notice any signs of injury or broken skin to make the patient aware of it due to their injuries on their feet not necessarily healing so fast, and sometimes a referral to a doctor or podiatrist may be necessary to deal with such conditions.

I regularly joke with friends and family to say that as a Therapeutic Reflexologist I play with your toes, but that is just a joke.  As a Therapeutic Reflexologist, I work on the reflexes, or the nerve endings, on your feet, including that of the toes.  So, for the Therapeutic Reflexologist, your feet represent your entire body, and your toes usually represent your head region which would include areas like the eyes, ears, nose, sinus, brain, and so on.  The toes also host the beginning points of the acupuncture lines, or the meridians, in your body.  We thus do not only work on the reflexes but also on some pressure points located on the toes in or around the reflexes.

That may be too much technical information, but keep in mind that your feet are fascinating and when focusing on only one aspect of your feet, your toes, it just increases the fascination.  Your toes help your body to balance itself while doing many different maneuvers and therefore your toes play an important part in the foot and will thus also make out an important part of the Therapeutic Reflexology treatment.  You may not always pay much attention to your feet, or specifically your toes, but your Therapeutic Reflexologist will make up for your lack of attention.

A Therapeutic Reflexology session is usually very enjoyable, it is not ticklish, and it is not painful, at least not from my perspective.  My technique is to help you relax, not to cause you pain.  There may be areas that are sensitive, but we deal with that based on each individual and within your own level of comfort without causing unnecessary pain and discomfort.

Why not try a Therapeutic Reflexology treatment session for yourself?  Experience the ultimate form of relaxation.  Allow your Therapeutic Reflexologist to give your toes the well-deserved attention they may be craving.
